thanks Jan! it's been days and days for waiting for the right moment. Wildlife can be so time consuming, but then I enjoyed it immensly. Spending time outdoors with those birds was like vacation.

thanks very much Trish. I have tons of birds from my wildlife times. My kids and my current job don't allow me to spend so much time out in the wild any more. And I'm more interested in people at the moment.

thanks Marcus. I tried different exposure times and found for geese 1/1250 creates this nice frozen yet motion look that I like very much. In the beginning I used way too slow shutter times but the totally frozen wings felt a little dead. Do you know Steven Dalton's work? He was one of the first to freeze flying birds and insects with flash. As impressive as those photos looked, they all felt like suffed in a museum.

thanks Fadel, actually I did a lot of experimenting with shutter times to get this look. I found 1/1250 gives the wings a slight blur to add some motion to the photo but at the same time freezes the head to be perfectly in focus. At least for a goose. The smaller the wings the faster the shutter speed has to be.
