This is a tough orchid to get right on digital. I have found almost all shots of this species of orchid benefit from a slight saturation boost (green channel helps especially). Also, you might consider using a diopter on top of your 50mm lens as a means of getting cheap macro's... I do it all the time with my 85 1.8, and get some pleasing results. Thanks for sharing, it seems orchids are in bloom everywhere right now.
