Hi Stan,
To answer your questions; the images are usually one long exposure with a second of the moon taken thru a telephoto lens.
I'm sorry for the grainyness of my photos it comes from scanning my proofs, I think it has to do with the texture of the photographic paper. My photos look much better in person however, there is some degradation in the transition into digital form. Any advice in this area is appreciated.

Jason, I LOVE your night images. Will view every image in your portfolio. Was id double or triple exposure? I'll say triple
1. for moon
2. long exposure for waterfalls and moving clouds.
3. highlighted tree and sliffs
Am I right? :)
I don't like grainy sky, but it's minor by impact of entire image.
Super!!!!! 7+ from me
P.S. For deep colors from digital - I can get it only at short periods of time before complete darness or before sunrise...

Hi George, I love the Hill Country and am truly blessed to be living here. This photo was done near the Guadalupe River. Thanks for your interest.

Thank your for your input, I only made the harsh comments against digital photography to invite debate. I feel there is too much hype over this digital revolution. I invite more people to comment about this digital vs. film question. I know that digital cameras have their place but how can one just trade in their film cameras for digital, and buy in to this quantity vs. quality thing. PLEASE COMMENT IN THIS DEBATE

You know Jason, I was prepared to compliment you on a great which shows great control of the elements and equipment; but was really put off by yr comments in the description. It's like saying that all great painters only use oils. Film does not make a photographer great. I've seen many a great photographer using film but I've see even more bad ones using film as well; the same applies for digital. These are merely mediums by which people choose to with, but it's no substitute for talent.
So I give a 6 for yr image but a 1 for yr comments

I'm very impressed. Also grateful. There aren't too many film users left. Although I shoot a bit of digital, nothing provides the satisfaction in photography like film, especially in the dark room. The Hill Country of Texas is the best place in the entire state. You just don't run out of incredible sights and experiences. And YES... I would very much for you to share the details of how you accomplished the set-up and exposure for this photo. By any chance was this near the Llano River?

Greetings Jason. Well, you sure have introduced yourself by making a stand in favour of film photography. Cheers, say I, though I don't have anything against digital photography. For the time being, it fails badly when it comes to making a high-quality print, as you also state. Nothing beats the quality of a print made by someone who really knows how, straight from the negative. But this is increasingly becoming a rare specialty these days, the preserve of photographers who have the financial backing to mount shows. I too enjoy taking photographs at night using long exposures and light-painting. I like your added twist of using coloured theatrical gels on the lens of your light source although, if you don't mind me saying so, the results are a bit too colourful for me. I appreciate how you share your techniques and look forward to seeing more of your inimitable pictures. Rgds, Svend

Yes it was! It is not hard to see this type of thing up here in the Hill Country after a good downpoor. I hope to do some cool night shots of the River Walk this X-mas. Best Regards

Incredibly beautiful, Jason!
Was this from last week's flooding? (I'm in San Antonio)

I agree that deep blue color is a nice feature of a film (which is sometimes a fakery) but with some work nice deep colors can be attained on the digital image as well.
