Well, I guess the photo matches the title. Try a smallest aperture if possible, ie, f/16 or f/20, but watch out for your shutter speed. You will achieve sharper image.
Check out my portfilio on a zoo lizard. Here is my secret. Go full manual (exposure and focus), use a manual flash unit with white handkerchief as a diffuser. Ensure your manual flash is compatible with your camera. Some manual flash units maybe too strong and may damage the camera. Also, if you are using a manual flash, the shutter speed should be on the right flash synch. ie 1/60-1/500 of a second. Check your manual. Ensure the flash unit is directly against the glass so you will not get any flash bounce back. Take several photos by bracketing. Do not erase any images until you see the results on the computer. Do not trust the images exposure on the camera's monitor and do not erase them to save memory space.
I will like to see the rest of the lizard and the great land of Australia. Please take more photos and post them. Thank you very much for sharing.
