About This is an picture taken in the wee hours of the AM in the Jarbidge Mtns of Nevada. A novice like myself had a real problem taking this. I used no extra settings. Just took a bunch of moonshots til I think I had one, and this is pretty much it.

Roger, invest in a tripod and zoom in on the moon a bit. Don't take the picture on auto, try different exposures on manual untill you get a good result.

Randal, I appreciate your input.....being handheld camera, and not the full moon I was hoping for. I'm still working the camera to understand the working of taking nite and moon pics. I have a few other pics that I utilized using a sunrise or sunset, however, the moon seems to be outta reach for me yet....;-) Again, thanks for the comments. I also look forward in the near future of becoming a "Donor". I love this site.

I think you had the right idea with the mood, but the moon came out looking like an amorphous blob. The trees showed well against the sky, but it's just too difficult a shot, what with the vast difference in light. Did you use a tripod? The outline of the gibbous moon is somewhat fuzzy. Keep at it, but you have chosen a quite difficult subject for a self-described "novice".
Regards,
Randal Dean (another self-described novice)

"...I play the radio on southern stations..."

Not bad - good trees. But to get surface detail on the moon you need a lot less exposure than that, and a bit more magnification.
