About Don't know what it is, but I've just never been able to catch one of these creatures when it's been on its tea-break!! But, today, I found one that was in dire need of a long cool drink and took full advantage of the situation.

Unfortunately, funds have not yet stretched to the purchase of a dedicated macro lens, so I zoomed in with my 300mm and this is what I ended up with!

With the sermon all wrapped up and the PowerPoint slides all done, I'm really looking forward to tomorrow's service. i hope you have a good Sunday, too! It's usually the best day of the week for me!!

Best regards to all, Chris

Hi Chris, could it be that i've had an influence on the great "Spracklen" :)
Nice capture, i don't know what it is but it looks the a female "Ruddy Darter". The male is red and the female more of a green colour which you have here.
Best wishes and thanks for your comments
Neil

WOOOEEEE...... Steve!
20 tons of water is more of a "Lake" view to me, instead of pond!!! *sparkle*

You will soon get those lovely fast little creatures to Your delight and all UF to enjoy those shots, You'll see, my Friend!!!
... guess the hover flies could be acting some selfish... leaving the other ladies insects apart!
i understand why they want to show off!

my best regards for a Summer full of nice shots,
Regi

There speaks a man who is happy in his job! Good for you, Chris. In Japanese a "dragonfly return" is a trip all completed within the same day. We have many beautiful dragonflies here, some a dark vivid red that you'd never forget once you'd seen it. But like you (at least until now), I've never captured one, and probably never will without an SLR and macro lens!

Hello Chris,
These dragonflies are all over my garden these days. They really are very beautiful and you have captured this one so well! I like the colourful background a lot! I have tried to catch them with my camera too, but didn't succeed to capture one so sharp as you did. Great work!
greetings,
Diana.

Hi Chris; you've captured excellent detail in the body of the dragonfly and the background colors are very complementary. Very nice shot. This is one where the thumbnail just doesn't do the subject justice-- its got to be opened up and looked at.

Speaking of long lenses, I too use my 50-200 Zuiko (100-400mm in 35mm) as a long focal length macro and love using it for that. I do have the Zuiko (Olympus) 50mm Macro (100mm in 35mm equivalent), but find that I've used it little so far even though it's very sharp. But it doesn't have the desireable long working distance that the long zoom does. I suspect you'd find the same thing? Cheers. Craig

Excellent capture Chris and very well done without a macro lens. I have 20 tons of water in my garden pond and not seen any dragonflies yet so far :-(

Excellent macro with great colors. I just find the background a little distracting and also that border. Keep up the good work.

You have done very well with the 300mm. They are very hard to capture. I just got the new Sigma 105mm 2.8 DG Macro which seems to do very well so far. Don.
