About Inspired by two great photographs "Dive off a volcano!" from Stephen Bowden's Portfolio, i just couldn't resist adding this one here...
*wink*
The Maromba waterfall is about 30 meters high (veeeery high) and i couldn't resist jumping into the cold waters surrounded by Atlantic Forest and get on the flow of the river until it reached a natural pool area...
--What a rusSsh !
Due to the great amount of water, it's really difficult to go back to breathe and we must stick to our lungs-resistance until the tide brings You back to floating level (if You get lucky enough and also help manage swimming back to surface! )
it's never less than 3-4 minutes swimming depth... *sparkle*
There's a fun-short Video with English version to curious people, just like me, where a funky black labrador leads our way to most touristic attractions in the area:
http://www.viagensmaneiras.com/viagens/maua.htm

The altitude of Maromba, Visconde de Maua' and Maringa' area is of 2000 meters above sea level.
The area belongs to Mantiqueira chain of Mountains and it shelters the amazing National Park of Itatiaia.
The climate is Tropical of Altitude with maximum temperature of 27?C and lower reaches 0?C on June/July - but i once felt like an ice-cream cone at minus 3 degrees Celsius... Brrrrrrr!
The place, which was a former coal mining extraction area, received many Swiss and German immigrants along the years that reflects on constructions that You can watch at Video.

Bowden and his family would love this place: there's a great amount of Trout fishing places and You get to BBQ them right after being caught!!! Once in Maromba/Maringa'/Viscount of Maua' you never miss tasting a trout! There is a lot of that fish in the area and it is not expensive at all to try at local restaurants... - Yummmy!
i went on this trip with my cousins to an amazing river-rafting experience...

i highly recommend visiting both Ascencion Islands' "Dive off a volcano!" and the 2' Video for Your entertaining.

Forgot to mention the scale - you are looking at the Mountain and Waterfall being about 150 meters away...
Image was scanned from the 10x15 photo using a ViewStation AS6E Artec flatbed.

Warmest regards: i really appreciate Your visit!!!

Dearest Opal,
Jumping into a waterfall it's a real thrilling sensation, but the water contact feels that we go back to where we all came from... *wink*

Your work is amazing, Opal: it's my pleasure!!!

Ciao Giorgio,
Grazie per la visita amicale...
Si, sicuramente un 'runner' bravo come te

hah,hah, hah... You're funny Ted!
Thanks for the Comment. i was touring there with my cousins and had this French journalist from Lille - the European capital of Culture' 2004 - http://www.lille2004.com/
who i invited to come over to get to know the area, who generously took the photograph and hid the camera right after, so it wouldn't get SPLASH wet!
Yes, agree 100%: not many people are courageous to go sliding downwards the waterfall... guess i'm brave at heart! *wink*

kind regards,
Regina

Oh wow ... I would love to try this but you would need to warm the water about another 20 degrees :-) Looks super fun, I love waterslides !!!

Thanks for taking the time to visit my work, Kevin.
Glad you enjoyed my toy-OlimpusTrip-camera shot!
it was July, early a.m. veeeeery hazy and foggy around the trees as well, but enjoyed the rush emotion of sliding downwards the waterfall.
If You have the time, pls watch 2-min.Video: it's worth the visit and You'll see why i say it's foggy over the trees - ' cause the wtrfall in is the midst of mountain.

Best regards,
Regina

After this story I'm not so sure I still want to visit you once or make a trip with you. This is not my pleasure, I dont't like swimming anyway but this is far too much. How did the camera do on your way down (haha)?

Good shot but it's way to blurry for my taste. It's hard to see the kayaker but not to bad consider you used a toy camera.

'Danke jewell', Teunis! Glad You enjoyed the photograph... It's veeeeery risky and some dangerous there. i have seen people get seriouly hurt and some broken bones and bruises!
i know You are courageous too: it will be a piece of cake! *wink*
i encourage You to come with your family and promise to show the 'best' spot to slide in the waterfall and not get hurt at all!!!
Groet,
Regina
