Really good isolation; in other words, there aren't any other blooms in the background that tends to hide the outline of the main flower. The magenta looks almost like it's been painted on. A simple composition is almost always the best. Simple, yet intricate.

Dear Felipe
You are not only a very sweet and gentle man, but you also have a great sense of humour :-) When I write I mean "laugh out loud" though sometimes it's actually a case of !!
Thank you SO much for the document regarding the use of "unsharp". I will see whether it works on Elements 2.0 (that is the software programme I use). My Elements online tutorial course started last week and I think we will only get to the "unsharp" stuff much later in the course.
I so appreciate all the help you have been giving me with the software - I know that I am in desperate need for understanding how PS works.
- and this one means "lots of love" :-))) Linn

Hi Linn, depending of the person that tells LOL it can mean different things: the usual thing is "laughing out loud", but it can also be "lots of love " or " luck"... or "Lovely Orgiastic Lovemaking", "Lovingly Ornamented Long-johns" and "Little Old Lady" ;-) To the margin of this, your flower is extremely beautiful, but like others have said, it has a serie of artifacts and chromatic aberrations. The optics doesn't have anything to see. I will send you for mail a system to avoid this defect when we carry out adjustments with PS. My best, Felipe.

Quite far :-(
Without knowing your plans, my guess would be that you would visit Namaqualand, then spend the day (or two?) in Cape Town and then fly to Namibia straight from there.
We live close to Johannesburg International Airport - and again I am assuming that your plane will land there.
John, you are going to have a total blast - but you need more days and of course, plenty film!! Cape Town is incredibly beautiful and hopefully they will take you on a wine tour as well. A wealth of architecture too. Namibia is going to blow your mind! :-)

Wow, what a tremendous flower in wonderful light... You know I was going to say "did you mean to put it right in the middle?" as a joke but no foolin' this works just fine like this. The black background is really strong for this beautiful subject... So how far is Gauteng from Namaqualand?

Oh silly you!! Why didn't you just say "purple finging" and I would have understood
OK - after putting my snout to the screen, I can see what you mean (I MUST get stronger glasses!). I took this shot this morning at around 10.30 - light was coming from the Northern side - which is the right hand side of this image (and the others that I posted tonight). I can see petals with slight chromatic aberration but I have posted worse
Keep the critique coming Steve - you know that I appreciate honest and constructive criticism :-)

It is a mouthful lol One of the reasons I have not pursued purchasing one of the latest 8megapixel compacts is because of Chromatic aberration. It is purple fringing around the edges, usually occurs at full zoom - see Roberts image for an extreme example http://www.usefilm.com/image/410914.html The technical explanation says Chromatic aberration occurs due to the variation of refractive index with wavelength for a lens material (there is no chromatic aberation in curved mirrors).

Stevo, explain to me in plain English what that means! Really, I want to know so that I can learn.
Robert hasn't touched the Z1 for quite a while - he is flooded with contracts coming to a close and needs to pull finger to get things done. Shame :-)
