i think this photo sets some type of mood. i cant yet put my finger on what kind, but im thinking more of a 'yep, ive seen this before' becasue the couple behind her is staring out at the sights, and she just seems like she doesnt care, but yes, a fill flash might be a bit better

I think Maggie, Mags, Maw...summed this up nicely for you...there is an excellent opportunity here for a very successfull image....I dont think there is enough info in the neg to be able to burn in the background a bit here....and I really dont mind if the background does get hot but it tends to remove dimension from the image when it gets really hot....I do like the postion of the young girl in relation to the couple....the split you speak of Mags is less defined or diminished by the pier or bulkhead and the boat in the distance which kind of ties the two halfs together....

Hi Greg... So this is your sister. *smile* I know you wanted to get a photo of your sister/bro and girlfriend ...but when I look at this image my eye goes back and forth from your sister to your bro and girlfriend. I see two images here. When you did this shoot, I hope you moved a little to the right and took a photo of just your brother and his girlfriend looking at the Mersey River. If you did, when you print it ...dodge them a little and burn the river in a bit to give them/it more detail.

Your sister...I would have liked it done as a portrait with the river in the background and shallow DOF (depth of field) focusing on her eyes. You could also try using fill flash to get a catch light in the eyes. I know you say you havent thought of using flash but try it..see what difference it makes, you may be pleasantly surprised. Look at other portraits and people shots in here...if you see an image you like...ask the photographer how he got the results he did.

Dont mean to pull your photo apart Greg, so dont get on the defensive *smile*...just giving you more options and sharing some of the things I have learned listening to other photographers......Maggie
