Robins are friendly and generally accustomed to humans, so you can try to get closer. If it's on the ground, get down lower for a better shot and so you won't scare the bird off as easily. Try shooting in the early morning or later in the evening for softer light, so you can keep the contrast range of the scene within the range the film can record, and your shots will have more detail. I try to orient myself so that my shadow is in front of me, and will be behind the bird to avoid shadows or hotspots that will reduce detail.
