Overexposed considerably. It's not clear which model of Nikon and what flash unit you are using. If you set the controls by hand you need to redo this with a smaller aperture (larger f-number) at the same distance and with the same film. If this is the result of automatic TTL flash control, you probably need to override it manually.

Another suggestion is to either bounce the flash off a wall or ceiling (compensating appropriately for the loss of light) or diffuse the flash using a diffuser or even a couple of sheets of tissue paper taped, tied or rubber-banded to the unit. Either of these should reduce the harsh shadows behind the subject. The shadow above her head is particularly disturbing as it tends to blend with and distort her hair.

Think to much flash as white dress and face has lost to much detail and your eye then tends lead straight out to the background.
