Thanks Charlie, in this type of shot I always find knowing the story adds a lot.
We have gypsies as well but they don't look like this, not as well dressed.

dear graham, thank you for your comment. what you see is two of the many gipsy women roaming madrid. their bundles probably contain their merchandise they lay out on the sidewalks as long as no police patrol is in sight. what they are looking at is probably pretty harmless, they are looking for the type of icecream they may buy.
as long as they are street vending, they are not so much of a danger more boring and a hassle. but you better take care when they approach you with a city map in hand for help. you never let them come close to you or you are going to miss something later.
that's life or what?

Good colours and composition. A very interesting shot Charlie which makes me wonder exactly what I'm seeing. I assume the bags are all their worldly goods. What are they looking at?

I'm very surprise from many shots of your portfolio, how lifeful they are.
This one, for example, not only shows so a real moment, but with gret respect and powerful colours.
Even the circle of light on the bottom doesn't disturb at all, but make it more real, like an effect on our eyes.
