While the composition's good, it's all about atmosphere and mood in this photograph. The lighting is really beautiful, as if it's going between a long row of houses in a sort of alley configuration. I think you could have tilted the camera down a little more to include the whole length of the plant and its pot.

Elaine, this has usch pottential, I think you have to walk around your subject and study it from different angles, then think what it is you want to portray, when you are just about to press the shutter, look at every edge and corner of through the viewfinder and decide what to include or eliminate then take the picture. I have to agree with the cropping suggestion, but if only the bottom of the plant was included it would make it for me. It is still a lovely image, keep up the good work and welcome to UF - Richard.

You are off to a good start. Karen asked if I would make some suggestions. I think I would have shot this in a horizontal and shown more of the door along with the hanging plant. As others have said cropping the white from the top would help. The door on the right appears to be interesting and maybe get it included. Don.

I agree with the others....This is VERY nice. All the colors and different textures are quite pleasing and this has a good, strong composition. At first I disagreed with the crop suggestion, but I guess maybe they are right about that white wall. I liked the shingles though and hated to see them go. Anyway, good one and hope to see more soon....

Elaine, this is great!!! Wonderful saturation of greens, nice lighting, and crisp and sharp. GREAT WORK. I like it alot. I am so glad I could help.
I do agree with Paul. About an inch cropped off the top would improve composition. It would get rid of the biggest part of white on the wall that wants to grab the eye away from the doorway and greens.
But otherwise it is really nice. I cant wait to see what you put on with your new slr. Lookout usefilm, here come's Elaine.
