Kim, Part of what attracts me in a composition are the forms. In this image, the curves seemingly emanating from a common focal point are what attracted my eye, as opposed to the colors. I find the latter complementary to the main compositional focal point, namely, the swirls formed by the ferns.
Hence, I would contend that the "swirl source" is the focal point of the composition.
These are interesting with great colour, but for some reason they don't have enough jazz to jump off the page to me. maybe it's the lack of a true focal point... but I kinda like the way that my eyes follow the fern leaves around in a swirling pattern.
