Driving home tonight I saw some awesome heat lightning. Unfortunately, my camera's batteries were low so I couldn't take many shots. And as luck would have it the really cool lightning struck between shots, I did manage this one little bolt, though. Batteries will be recharged more regularly from now on. Lesson learned. Any suggestions on getting the sky less grainy? I set the camera to noise reduction, but I still have this problem.
Lucky you - I'm having to wait patiently till our next trip home for some lightning shots :) It looks like you made the best of the composition here, nicely thought out. For less grain I usually set my camera to a slower ISO (100 for the Sony), leave the shutter open for a few seconds and use an aperture between f4 and the narrowest on the lens. Typically lightning will come inbetween shots - it shares the humour of wild animals...
