By the way , I remember the tsunami of 26 December 2004 that struck a relatively thin but long coastal area stretching over 1,000 kilometers, or two thirds of the country's coastline. The damage stretched from Jaffna in the north down the entire eastern and southern coast, and covered the west coast as far north of Colombo as Chilaw.
Dead: over 35,000; Displaced: 443,000
A terrible tragedy that will be always impressed in our memory.
