Hi Fadel.
I haven't been around for a while.
I'm glad you like this one. I took this one with my old 50mm manual focus Nikkor lens that I altered to work on the D200. The combination works great in manual mode or aperture mode.
I was walking along Front Street on the way to the Auto Show at the Convention Centre.
I agree with you about the buildings characters.

Hey Andre, hope everything is fine with you! What a great about, title, and image to present them. And if you compare the buildings, you'll find that the one that once stood the tallest still has more appeal and character than the huge matchboxes.

Well, you were definitely downtown then :)
Like most big cities, Toronto needs a lot more than a day's time for a good visit. I lived in the city for over twenty years and I still haven't seen it all. Funny how when you live in a city, you tend to ignore a lot of the attractions, yet you might spend your money going to a similar place in another city. Presently, I live about a half hours drive from downtown. Close enough to get to a Leaf or Blue Jay game if I want to, and far enough away that I can walk down the street into the Rouge Valley which is just like a Conservation Area.

Well I can tell you where I was: go out the main doors of the railway station, turn right and go about a block. That's the limit of my knowledge of Toronto, although I did spend a weekend there that included a day transit pass where I poked my nose into as many corners as I could, which was fun but ultimately very hard on my feet. :-]

Thanks for the comment.
I think the building on the right of this image is the same one as the building on the right of your image. The difference being that you would have taken yours from further south west of where I was when I took this. The old skyscraper in this shot is the Canadian Imperial bank of Commerce, not the King Edward, as I stupidly named it earlier. I have corrected that mistake in my about.

great architectural capture, very nice mix of new and old... looks like somewhere in Boston I saw two or three years ago, with almost the same building... funny to see how the buildings looks the same in different city.

I feel similar to you when it comes to "abouts".
I know images should be able to stand on their own without explanation. But, I tend to write a few lines about the images anyway. I think most times it helps.

Andre,
I like your provoking attitude "abouting" here as it's not only about the city landmarks that may be degraded in their role over time, other "lifemarks" (as I would call it) had changed big way as well and it's a way to go.
You are right suggesting that those sentimental things make one touching the grounds and remember the taste of old sugar candies.
I love the shot as well but with your comments it got true symbolic layer of sense - great stuff friend.

Isn't it amazing how much they can pack into a downtown core?
I thought I would do a close crop on this one because it seemed to be even more effective in giving the impression of the large newer buildings almost bullying the older styled King Edward Hotel just off centre in the image.

It begs the question as to how much higher the architects and builders want to take things. Too much of this starts to get ugly and these days I am content to live far away from city heights. The shot is great Andre my friend and demonstrates modern trends brilliantly. I love all the different architectural styles and thats only viewing some brickwork and a lot of windows. What impressed us as youngsters has been superseded a hundredfold and not always to the good. My very best wishes to you as always.....Ray
