About This is a rare site in Neskowin--You may not know how
spectacular it is unless you know what it is you're looking at.

They look somewhat like old, ragged pilings leftover from something manmade - but they are, in fact, stumps of a forest some 1000 to 2000 years ago or so. As many as 100 are sometimes visible in various shapes and sizes. It's theorized that around that time, the landscape changed rather quickly - in geologic terms - over a period of decades. Sand, sea or muck covered this forest entirely, killing them. This wound up preserving them, rather then destroying and scattering them as natural erosion might've done.

I had posted my first image of this Forest but do not have a zoom lens- Just 52mm and also I could not cross the stream that runs into the sea as it was high tide... Tuesday afternoon I manged to cross that stream at low tide and get a closer and hopefully better shot of these tree tops -

Thank You for Your time and I would love to know your thoughts ....

Thank You for the kind comment dear John - mostly on the sand that is the tops of trees that have been burried by the sea 1,000 years ago- but at low tides we can view them !

Excellent shot, I love the fog... ok, not fog here but still that waterspray adds for me, especialy against the dark - shadowed side of that hill, very impressive also the rocks and the birds that fill up nicely the sand texture.

Very interesting explanation, Michele. When I first saw this I thought they were volcanic rocks(bombs) that might have beenscattered there from a prehistoric eruption of Mt Rainier or Mt St Helens. BILL

Great shot to illustrate your very interesting about. Very well composed with the mist, surf, clouds, paddlers etc. Now that portions of these sumps are exposed you have to wonder how long they will survive exposed to the atmosphere and surf. Well done my friend.
Regards,
Joe

Dear Michele, Beautiful beach and forest to watch here. Love the place and also very interesting about. I wonder if these tops are wood -or stone like. If you can not see or do not know, go to the beach again and touch to be sure.
big hugs from Paul

Hi dear Michele!
This is such a beautiful capture of this lovely site. I love the mood in this image, looking a bit foggy. The washed sand and the reflection on it is superb and adds a lot of atmosphere to the image. It has great impact.
Wish you a wonderful day.
Regards,
M.
