About here's a rushy cityscape from Zagreb. I took it very fast as the pigeons were flying away and i wanted to have them in the shot. i would like to have a few opinions on the centred lamp of the shot, its top not being entirely within the frame!

thanks for viewing,
v.

Definitely, Visar! And it would also motion-blur the people around. So it *is* a dilemma, and a very interesting one. It boils down to the question, if more details on the people far away could be revealed by a more intense exposure, but without bringing any other light enhancement at the same time. It would be a compromise anyway, which at the end is just arbitrary choise.

If we put the dark ambiance above all, and I can only second you in that point, then it has to be this way, with minor deviations in lighting as the only (questionable) possibility for some more details on the already mentioned people on the background. In case even a minor deviation would destroy the ambiance then I would reject that too. But in case it preserves that ambience, it would be worth taking a look at it.

All that makes me think of my search for extreme high dynamics range film. This would be the "clear" solution without the by-taste of a compromise. As I told to Avi, this should be technologically feasible, since video-film already does that quite seemlessly. But for some reason it didn't found its analogon in film photography (yet?). It can be only wishable to have a second "revolution" after the digital "revolution" in photography, the latter being an evolution rather than anything else, but that's another story.

Cheers!

Nick

Yes, Nick- I also agree that the expo is a bit less opened than it should be in order to gain details of the people around.
on the other hand, don't you think a longer exposure would give the feeling of midday rather than almost dark ambiance!?
I have a little dilemma about this.

cheers,
v.

Yes, Bobot, that is the reason i had my doubts about the shot, only that the poll is not entirely included. now i only wish i had it, but maybe next time i'd be a bit more careful with it.

cheers,

Ir is an interesting capture with so many details, the only problem with the center post is that it is cropped at the top. With this kind of shot, it is the totality of the place and the atmosphere the photographer sees, it's like you want to include everything for the viewer to feel the atmosphere and see the details.. life on the ground and life up high, so many things that catches the eyes attention, hard to focus on a particular element.. well, it's the whole place that is the subject..:)
good one Visar, interesting capture..
regards..

Now you really got it! A bit more light/exposure for the darkness that hides some details of the acting persons on the street, and the whole lamp would really be the complement of the bottom half. But the main thing here is that you just caught that action on the streets in the city, balanced by the action of the birds on the sky of the city.

It has also a very strong documentary character, which is captured in quite a complimenting way for the scene. As alread said, this seems to be very important to me. You dod make it look "special" in all its "humbleness", even if there is more room to raise its special look even higher.

Cheers!

Nick
