About I only try shots very seldom with some animal as the main actor. Most of the time they simply won't behave themselves as photo models. ;-) But that guy landed right in front of me and really did anything for a good photo. Or it was simply watching how ridiculous the photographer could get ;-)

I'd be glad for any comments.

Yes, that's right, and that aperture and amount of blur to the background and yet getting your subject perfectly focused CAN be a challenge, as in macro shots. The colors in this image are just so lovely and your focus on the bird is perfect so the rest is just sauce you know...and yes no period for thinking minds. A good day to you Nick, Linda

Aaah, OK, now I understand! I was thinking of some kind of "artefact" that comes out of the head of the pidgeon itself. But it is the background, and now I see what you mean. Well, yes an even more softened background would eliminate that. Hmm, open your aperture, Nick!

This is always a good exercise, I guess. How much softer can the background be so that it is still recognizable but avoids interference with the main subject? That's a point to work on!

Thanks a lot and let periods aside. There is no period for thinking minds since any period would be the end, the finish, ... mental death!

Cheers!

Thanks a lot Ronen!

I guess also it goes the way of the nowadays accepted "beautiful" photography, ey? Just get a shallow DoF, some sweetie like a flower or a bird in focus, and your're done. The wishes of the softies, you see ;-)

Cheers,

Nick

Yeah but honestly it looks good as it is too...there is a line in the background...and his head is against the dark portion of it...he would stand out more with the lighter background behind him or with more blur. But you know Nick I only say this because you ask for serious critique...that's nit-picking too...because I love this image, just as you posted it...period!! :)

The tonal integrity was also a very important thing to me when I got the prints, Linda! In the whole series these earthy colors dominate, and so I guess that this was the combination of the character of the city under that cloudy weather. I do like them very much too. Quite different from the usual blue skies and flashy colors - it is a city.

Thanks a lot for your suggestions. So let's work. I cropped a bit of the left side off - is that enough? Or already too much? I guess that I made the usual mistake of the beginner here - just get a shallow DoF and put the object right in the middle.

But I don't see the line you talked about. What do you mean?

Cheers and thanks again!

Cropped off some of the left side after Linda's suggestion

Especially when they think that you carry some food for them, Alida!

So, I think I was not less opportunistic too! ;-)

Cheers!

Undortunately most of the time they simply don't care about my photographic intentions, Jen ;-) One good image of some animal now and then is enough.

Thanks a lot for the nice comment.

I fine these colors very attractive Nick. Very lovely tones, and interesting that the bird echoes the same tones...nice! Beautiful DOF with nice details and light, the exposure look perfect! The only two suggestions I have are perhaps you could take a bit off the left side for the rule of thirds, and that line coming up from his head could possibly be soften more. Neither of these are a big deal for me, because the background is nicely blurred and the DOF is so good...great job with this Nick!! Really a beautiful image, love it!! :))
