About A vinegar fly feeding on a piece of decaying watermelon. The colours are natural with the minimal enhancement. These flies are about 2mm in length. Taken with the 105 mm Micro Nikkor plus the Panagor 2.75 macro converter. Magnification about 4 times lifesize. Handheld, with Sunpack GX8R ringflash.

Hi Avi
This is related to the Drosophila melanogaster species on which all the famous genetic studies have been done. No, it is not a fruit fly. The fruit flies belong to the Tephritidae family of which the species Ceratitis capitata (Meditiranean fruit fly) might be the most well known due to its cosmopolitan distribution. Regards.
