About This is the Siletz river at hiway 101. It winds 26 miles by road and more like 36 miles by boat high in these mountains to the town of Siletz where most of the native Indians still live.
This is the first river I fell in love with when I moved to Oregon 13 yrs. ago from central Ca.
I hope You like it .

I see that D has given you some suggestions and he is right about the RAW as you can get better pictures...not too sure about Robin calling him a genius.....he already has a hard time finding a hat that fits!
This is very beautiful and glad to see you doing so well the the new camera.

Wow back at ya Michele...this is great! As the others have said, the clarity, color, exposure, and composition are wonderful.

I've had some time to browse your portfolio and can see how far you've come! Buying a new camera and learning how to use it exciting...and sometimes frustrating, as I'm sure you know. The best advice I received...learn how to use it manually. Doyle's suggestion to shoot in auto, then reshoot and experiment in manual mode works well as a teaching tool...great advice, he is a genius you know!

Keep at it, experiment, and have fun!

Take care...Robin

Hi Doyle,

Thanks so much for your time. I was hoping you'd get a chance to view this as I thought it was pretty good yesterday..ha!!
Well, I just mean that I realize how much better it could be today . I did shoot in RAW once... but I didn't understand it and it came out wierd colors.. I know READ about it first... BUT It's hard to contain myself . I want to know everything NOW.......
The program that came with my camera is called PhotoProject 1.7 I just got into it a bit yesterday and was impressed. What do You think of it? Is it as good as Photoshop elements ?? Should I continue to learn it ?
Thanks again for your continual help Doyle !!

Cheers
Michele~

Very nice Michele. Martin made some valid points for further practice. I believe you have a landscape setting on that bad boy . . . use it for these shots and THEN shoot the same thing manually . . . as you get better with manual settings . . . your work will be better than the auto settings. Until then . . . you should have a VERY good shot anyway (just in case) and get lots of practice. I'm assuming you don't bracket or shoot in RAW yet . . . that will come in time. I really think you've outgrown Picassa and perhaps should be looking into Photoshop Elements . . . you absolutely don't need the full-on Photoshop. The tools in elements will give you lots of room to grow and continue to improve. Love it girl . . . you're improving fast and furious! 7 from me too . . . LOOK at that rating!!

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~

Mich,

With a shutter speed of 1/250 @ f/10, is not a deep enough DOF... I usually don't use a 1/250th of a shutter speed even when shooting Dragsters.

Nothing is really moving in this capture, so 1/60th would be fine for shooting landscapes, then your DOF will become much greater at f/22, or f/32, using the same ISO, of course.

Hope this helps,

Martin

Michele - Again: the new camera and your growing skills are showing so well. What I like especially about this scenic is the fine detail and texture in the water; the ripples, the reflection and the changing texture of the surface as the eye follows the water outward. The hazy distance and the avoidance of over-saturation gives this a very realistic impression of what you were seeing including the muted sky. Also kind of interesting is the wire span across the water; not something you see often unless you are in areas that still have a strong rural flavor but have accommodated habitation. This one is another one you can be proud of.
--Best to you, Jan

John Hatz John Hatz   {K:156973} 1/24/2007
Absolutely perfect that one, really the clarity is stunning and so the quality. Also the colors are enouph dsturated even in longer distances (green mountain, not blue - perple from the weather conditions) I love the changes of the texture of the water (waves and waveless)
hmmmm...it could be a bit more space at the left of the building just to so tightly cropped but still that shot takes the 7 for me.
Best regards!
