I really like this work. When i flashed on the thumbnail I knew I would like it. Once the large size came up I wondered how did he do that? Then your text told me. The result is an image much closer to what one would feel emotionally were one really there. Our eye compensates so quickly for brightness. My only complaint is the relative lack of contrast on the rocks. If YOU wanted to pump it up a bit you could select them in PS and use any number of techniques to raise local micro contrast. Job well done!
