Anyhow, off course you took the shot, no one leaves such a candid on the side.
Love it.

Imageopolis Featured Photo Critique But Doyle you“ve got to see the advantages in having this sealion - you can get the most fascinating images when it bounces you around in the air!! Also it can bring you far out in the sea while you sit there on its nose being almost dry and so is the camera!! And what a great time for Marlyce seing and photographing this. An endless stream of opportunities as I see it!;-)

Thanks Michele . . . and especially for the analytical comment. I agree completely about the crop and set about to emphasize the position . . . which -- judging by your comment -- has been effective.

And he does look sleek (translated - Wet) as well. I have been having second thoughts, particularly after Sam's comment, about increasing the contrast and midtones to get the bronze statue feel. Hindsight is 20/20, but I'm now thinking the hot spots due to the changes might be more distracting than the payoff I get for the 'feel' . . .

But, as I told Sam, I routinely question my own work anyway. And thanks ever so much for your comments!

Doyle I <~~~~~

LoL! Oh sure Annemette . . . I'm sure you've heard THIS before . . .

"Can I have him?? I'll take care of him.... I PROMISE to clean up after him . . . YOU won't have to do ANYTHING!!!"

Uh huh. Sure.

ONE week of sea lion poop and it'll be, "Well YOU look at him too!" - Conveniently forgetting me running for my life from him because he thinks I'm a giant clam! Or worse . . . a cute lil sea lion with LOVE on my mind! YIKES! LoL!

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~

Thanks Sam . . .

I actually pulled up the contrast and midtones to get the effect you mention so that I could try to simulate the bronze statue kinda' feel. Naturally, having done so . . . I now feel it's likely more distracting than helpful . . . but I routinely second guess my work anyway. Overall . . . I have been happier with other shots . . . but I try many different things and the result of this widespread interest level of mine is that I may get pretty good at MANY things but there will necessarily be those things attempted which just don't work ...... :) - In other words . . . Ansel Adams I'm not . . . but lets see HIS floral macros!! Heheheheee.

Sam I really appreciate hearing from you and the honesty in the comments.

Sincerest regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~

Hello Doyle,

Nice tones, nice composition, light, reflections, and crop ... The crop kind of tops this off for me. He is in a unique , un-usual position... ..the 'thinking position' proabably and the crop fits this position so his figure is more flattering !
More of a sleek look to him/her....
Well done !!!

Best wishes,
Michele~

Doyle, I am glad that I left this for last. I Love the composition of the shot, One tiny nit...On my screen it looks as if the shadows need to be un-locked and a few hot spots on his nose and body that need to be toned down.

In any event...this is one well timed and presented shot. Keep up the great work.

Best Regards

Sam Graziano III

I'll bet the bronzed version did not smell as much as this Thinker. Amusing title and good capture. Art is where you find it.
