Sheila: You cut to the heart of the matter with the ISO question because it tends to be a bit tricky. Lengthy exposure and auto settings have failed me miserably. Auto put me sometimes up to 1600 ISO . . . with considerable noise. Manually, I try to tune it as low as reasonably possible . . . sometimes 200, oft-times more. I will check later and send you an e-mail of the settings used on the various night shots or, better yet, list them on the shots 'about' section in case anybody else is interested . . . but I'll let you know when I've gotten around to doing it. Meantime, experiment with the ISO settings, which you'll likely need to do anyway. And enjoy . . . I'd love to see some dock exploration from you!!

Another beautiful shot Doyle! You're making me want to go explore our docks a bit more. What ISO did you use for your night shots?

Sorry, no, no ambience. Maybe if you were shooting a night shot of a Starbucks....
Hey, bro, I had to learn this the hard way, too. One of my first UF posts included a piece of trash (white paper) laying in the foreground grass. I never even saw it in person nor when I later looked at the photo prior to posting it. What I thought was a great photo was dashed when somebody said "always look around for foreground trash". Something I always try to do now, albeit while taking the picture or, at the very least, working with it later.
Best wishes, Dave

Arrrrghh! Didn't even think of it. Could have moved it . . . could have cloned it . . . then again . . . it gives a sort of ambience, no? These are commercial fishermen . . . I'm thinking I should be grateful it was only a cup!

Now I like this photo of the dock. I think it gives a whole new depth to the scene without the boat right at the dock.
Only thing I would say is to watch for eaily removed trash, like the cup against the seawall. You might even want to clone that out.
Shame people have to be pigs and throw their garbage down everywhere.

An excellent nightime study that clearly states that this is a fishing port Doyle. Once again I am enjoying the twinkling lights and the illumination they have supplied deeper into the composition. The 5 second exposure has worked extremely well in recordind sufficient detail whilst retaining this wonderful nightime atmosphere. Well done to you my good friend. Cheers to you, 'see' you again soon.....Ray.
PS sorry to hear that you are confined to the computer, I empathise with you on your affliction, though I am not too bad of late...Thinking of you Doyle
