Hans, it could be the scan, but for this type of photo, the image is way too soft.
Also, I can't help but think that you didn't help your case by picking a fast film and pushing it even further... Have you seen Steve Kaufman's work on this site? He uses velvia quite a bit and gets fantastic results with it.
I can't help but wonder what this image would look like, had it been a little bit sharper, and shot with a slightly better film.
Regardless, this is a heart-warming picture. Well seen :-)
