I had to do something with the gray overcast sky, don't hold it against me. This Cathedral was built in 1215.

This reminds me of old ghost story movies. A tenebrous sky and statues ready to come to life. Very dramatic. No doubt why it was chosen. There is a good range of tones that allow inspecting of the texture. After looking at it for a little while longer I discorvered the stained windows. Nice reflections on those also. There's even a number or letter etched on the left bottom corner. Very interesting. What I like most is that I did not have to go hunting for such an image as this. I suppose there may be some compositional rule that was broken, but it works. Can you tell us if you did anything special to the scanned neg? Regards Otto

The sky... it really does not quite go with it. I think the blacks should have been a lot lighter. Also you forgot to apply the filter to a small portion on the right hand side.

LOVE IT, great detail in the stone work, the sky looks a bit odd but can't help that!

Richard,

Excellent tones and contrast! This is what B&W is for.

Well done - the softness of the clouds offsets the rough texture of the stonework.

Richard wrote: " I had to do something with the gray overcast sky..." Does this mean those are PS clouds? They work, IMO.

nice angle! the tone of the sky separates the building from it - not that it's a bad things. have you tried it with the sky in the same toning? it may look a touch better. just my thoughts.

Great detail and perspective. Don't apologize for the sky. Although it does seem a different tone, it really adds drama to the shot. But who doesn't boost a weak sky when it's needed? I've taken skies from one image and added them to images from other countries. You know, you don't have to tell all your secrets either..ha!
