Hi Ina, I'd be fun to walk around NYC and try some images. Of course, it's been so long since I've been back there, I'd probably feel like a tourist too. :-)
Best regards, Bob

Hi Kelly, I don't know what a voodoo hex is, but I guess it must be a spell? Now you got me worried! LOL, he looks like a good actor!

Hi Ann! In this type of shots one doesn't have much time to compose, or study the subject, but I was lucky for timing :) I've learned a lot from UF though, and this is a result of it! Thanks very much for your great comment :)

Thanks Mark! I love the humanity in the different expressions, too. I wish I could do more of this type of photography, but I need to get out more! I won't be around 200 years from now, but probably the Google index will :) Best regards, Ina

Thanks Susie, I treasure my very few people shots - I think I should do more, I'm just too shy outside of big crowded places to look straight at people, but in NYC nobody really seemed upset by the camera.

Hi Bob, sorry I couldn't reply sooner, I've been out of town and w/out internet for a couple of days. I'd love to see your take on NYC, because having grown there you certainly have a very different understanding from a simple tourist like me. We tourists tend to seek the most unusual or the very typical - I think it's unavoidable. I may revisit some of my WTC shots taken after 911, if I can find them, sometimes I look with new eyes and "rediscover" some overlooked shots. NYC is always exciting, and not just Manhattan. Best regards, Ina

Oh no the voodo hex posture. Is he casting a spell on me now? I hope I don't wake up with warts or something. What a dramatic pose this performer has. He missed his call on broadway I see.
This is fun picture to see the reaction that the people have to him. All the different faces they are making. Wonderful candid photo.

Hey Ina...it looks like this guy is about to Karate kick that camera right out of your hands. ;)
A great action people shot. A good composition. I like how you have included some of his audience and they are watching him and the main subject is watching you. Good strong B&W tones for such a scene takes away from the distraction of colour making the eyes wander and this keeps focus on the subject. I think it also keeps a busier scene more uncluttered by keeping it monochrome. Good choice and great shot.
Cheers - Ann :)

It brings back memories of when I did a series in LA in the '80's. It's alive with humanity. Can you imagine what reactions this would cause a couple hundred years from now (if humans are still around a couple hundred years from now)?

(Guess I forgot to "send" my first comment!) Hi Ina! I love street photograhy....so many great characters out there. I especially love that you've captured some great expressions on the faces of the spectators here. Very well done. I really like it. Susie

Hi Ina, Yep, I spent my first 20+ years in New Rochelle, some 30 miles or so south of the big city. The accent was almost forced out of me after entering the military in the early 80s (way too many wise cracks directed my way - LOL). I haven't been back there in over 10 years - hoping for a trip this spring, if it can be worked out. NYC is always an exciting place... almost nothing is considered out of the 'norm' in that environment. There's a lot of character there and I think your images certainly captured a taste of it.
Best regards, Bob

Ina, just happened to read your response to Aram. I can relate because I do too do this. I will see some of my work in a different way after some time and then decide to post it later on. I never delete photos either. By the way, great work.

Hi Bob, I didn't know you were a New Yorker (I can't hear your accent - LOL!) - I've been a number of times to NYC, but never had a true photo journey. Always had other plans - fun with friends, shopping, etc. Maybe next time I'll be more photo oriented. NYC is only 1 hr's flight from Buffalo, or a day by car from us.

Thanks Aram :) and you're right, as usual. I have a huge collection of pictures and sometimes I see something on UF that reminds me to look back at my own pictures and I spend some good time re-evaluating them and transforming them in PS. And I learned to never delete any picture, no matter how bad it seems (and there are a lot of those) - because one day I could discover an interesting texture or crop :) Best regards, Ina

Impressive shot. Each face has a history (I love the smile of the girl at the left!) I am (just like Andrzej) amazed how successfully you pass from one theme to another. But I don't believe that it is just a question of shooting at the right moment: there should be an immense work of reflection and comparison of different shots that leads to selecting the one or those that have the potential to become... (as they all become, actually!)... excellent art works.

Great tones and expressions, Ina!
I was born/raised in NY (suburbs) and I'd bet you had quite a few interesting... uh... 'subjects' to capture. Ha, ha. I find street photo pretty fascinating, and someday I'd like to try it myself.
Nice series of images! B/W rules for these kinds of images. :-)

Both of these street shots are MARVELOUS! The people's faces are all so full of expression and the sense of action is also great. A great opportunity to shoot, and you have taken wonderfully full advantage of it. Plain B&W is an excellent choice for these!

Hi Andrzej, and thanks for your comment! I'm going through some of my older (never published) pictures from my travels. I love people pictures and I'd love to have more in my portfolio. So next summer I'll concentrate on that. Please add your pictures of street performers, yours are probably going to be amazing!

Ina, it's amazing how easy you can switch the gears or I would say the mood and jump to another theme to start another series of great photos in completely different style.
I like to watch street performers and like to take pictures of the scene as well. Important observation for me is that the preople performing and spectators have a good fun and enjoy that. In many big cities like LA, SF, Boston, TO, Ottawa (is it big?), Montreal, NO, Atlanta, Milan. etc I've been to it's kind of an attraction and a flavour pulling tourists into the area.
You did great job on those two I've seen so far, great capture of the spirit of the place.
If you are going to continue this way I may associate with you and add a couple of mine to complement.
Cheers, n.j

Hey Nina. Nice to see you took some street photos :-) You captured the performer very well. A tip: try to avoid too crowded backgrounds. Not only the person(s) are important, but just as much the surroundings and the background.
