About I know this scene is now familiar to you all, but as I said the other week I went out there and really opened up the camera to see what it could do. This is one of the results.

This image was taken at 5-58pm. It is quite dark at this stage as you probably know...but this is what I got. I really like the feeling of mist across the water. Considering the darkness at this hour there was no sky. This image really appealed to me. The only adjustments was a slight straighten.

I hope you like it as much as I do.

Below is an image from exactly the same location but four minutes prior to this one to give you an indication of the time of night.

This is a great spot for several shots, it really is instructive as to how different a scene can be due to different times, weather conditions and camera settings, and perspectives.
This has quite a different feel to it than any of the others. I saw in the upper left a possible minimalist take and enclosed it for you to see.

It's amazing how much light a camera picks up on long exposures and this is a great example. This is why I enjoy lowlight photography as much as my macro's . Good work and super example Judi.

This is really fascinating, Judi. Thanks for adding all the great detail in your about as it is very educational. The effect is really beautiful. Yes, it looks like mist across the water...exactly. It is amazing that you got this much detail at this time of night!!!!!!!! This spot will never be boring, especially the different ways you capture it. Astounding. :) Antonia

Great work Judi! Ade McFade is the great exponent of slow shutter speeds and water and this is every bit as good as some of his... I love the effect slow shutters have on water... it can make a stormy sea calmer and mistily mystic or give a calm sea a mirror that is almost impossible to achieve in any other way. Superb shot Judi... Love it!

Hey, I have seen this before.... :-)

You just can't beat a winner.. The light is just not the same. not to say this is not a good shot but this one (in comparison) illustrates how important the light is. Unlike realestate, location is NOT everything.

Had I not seen the previous POD winner I may have laid on the wonderful image comments but this one is just not the same.

Judi I like this misty look, and I never get tired of seeing your work or the same scene taken at a different time, or even another view, because they're really all different..and it's nice to see the changes. That's one of the beauty's of nature. And it's also a study, which is one of the reasons I'm here at UF...I like the contrasting sides Judi, going from one side to the other is nice because one is very entertaining to look at, at the other is very peaceful.. Beautiful as usual, don't you ever do anything just ugly....hehehehehe.....:) Linda

Gorgeous light, colours and textures again. The misy aura about it is lovely, I can see a frog in the stone and that piece of wood always looks like some interesting, animal shape

Steve Hennerley   {K:5776} 5/9/2005
Hi Judi -

Just great high key image....very very well done... Love the composition of this pic - the direction of the shadows in the 'mist' leads the eye nicely to the subjects.

A delicate and subtle curving arc of small pebbles (from the bottom left) also leads its way directly to the straight standing tree stump - which - combined with the top of the 'land' portion of the image completes the focus onto this stump (in a great triangle)

I agree with angelo about the right hand edge .... it looks good on its own - as there is no discernable border for much of it - but the left hand side has a hard edge. Maybe a very soft coloured border would work?

Just about perfect exposure though - none of the detail has been blown out at all. What shutter aperture was your camera set to?

I love the long exposure shots where the water turns to mist ... a very dreamy effect.

Just outstanding work as always Judi - always a pleasure to see your work Judi.... a fantastic inspiration to all... Hope you don't mind - but i also added you to my 'friends' list so I'm less likely to miss your uploads :)

Kindest Regards

Steve

Hi Judi,

Nice long exposure. I like the quality of the water and the overall high-key look of the image.

The high-key actually gets almost a bit too extreme towards the RHS, but I guess this contributes to the uplifting mood of the shot.
