About an in the camera double exposure - done with a pinhole camera .. exposures were long and the image carefully printed to allow both worlds to breath the life they each need to live in this image .. i want to thank the many people who have commented on these pinhole images .. for me it's a way to get closer to what it is i love about the photographic process .... i'm closer to what i see inwardly ... again thank you for taking the time to view these and comment - speaking of time - i believe this image requires a bit more of it than others at first ... maybe because two (or more) planes of light are at play .. enjoy.

Great use of both images, creates a strong mood and definitely makes the viewer want to look deeper.

very very effective - a resonant mood created from the double - I was surprised to read the technical details.

Double exposures are the luck of the draw, one in a million will work. This one doesn't, although it is one heck of an interesting picture. The problem is the lack of a visual magnetic point. With so much happening, the eye needs some kind of point of connection between the worlds of the two exposures. My eye is drawn to the reclining woman's face and is immediately confused by the jumble of arms, elbows, shoulders -- two bodies that are not in visual harmony with each other but rather in visual conflict with each other. That has been known to work too, but it doesn't here. Double exposures are fascinating. Even failed ones are much more interesting to look at than successful "straight" photographs. I've tried a whole bunch, and they're all utter failures as pictures. Rgds, Svend

Beautiful image, John -- I think this really is as close as I've ever seen to capturing the way the mids sees/remembers. It's both easy to look at and able to give a whole lot more if the viewer is inclined to spend some time -- and it's seductive enough to draw the viewer in. Lovely . . .

John,
To me, to get something like this is so hard on many levels, and you've nailed it on just about all of them! :)
Great work...

a truly wonderful shot, john. i love how the double exposure has created a sense of movement in the space, as though the air, the world is gliding by her, while she sits by so still, so tucked within her seemingly peaceful moment. Really beautiful. The tones are soft & add to the sense of fluidity in the piece. And i love how the very corner of the window out to the world is included in the photo - it opens the piece up to include the possibility of more just ever so slightly, if we seek to wonder. The only little thing that bothers me is the very bright spot on the end of her nose - although perhaps that's what she's smiling about - the silliness of something found wrapped in the beauty of something bigger...

The multiple exposure image is startling. The composition is superior.
