Bill Akata mentioned the Star of India in a recent comment (on a skyline photo by Steve K.), and I remembered taking this a couple of months ago. This is the oldest active sailing ship in the world. It's iron-hulled, built in 1863, and is part of a floating maritime museum on San Diego Bay. On special occasions it's sailed out into the open sea. Some of you may have preferred that I include the entire flag, as traditional composition rules might suggest. But in this case, I got exactly the framing I wanted and didn't feel that excluding the flag's end was a liability -- but what do I know.
