About I've been waiting all winter for these guys to show up, there are usually flocks of them around the feeders. They finally came last week.

Never seen one of these, Dave! The cocked pose of the head is neat.

The redpoll might be as common as it can get, but the image is definitely way above "common" for its great concentration and enhancement of the little guy as the main protagonist here. BTW, you had to wait and wait patiently for this moment, may I assume? It looks so completely natural, as it seems to turn its attention to something at the lower left. (Presumably the feeder?) Except of a bit of overexposure right before its tail feathers at the right of the branch, its definition is quite excellent. And again the warm browns of the nicely separated background worked very well for a quite natural approach.

All the best,

Nick

It is looking at something that really seems important!!! The expression of that eye is making the whole shot!

Very nice Dave. Beautiful detail and a very "relaxed" shot... I get 20-50 of theses guys to my feeders on some days and yet as soon as i try to get close, they head for the aspens! Beautifully done!

Very nice Dave, the detail is great and I know what you mean about the flocks, last year at my feeder, there groups of 50-75 of them sitting in the cedar hedge waiting for their turn at the feeder.

Good shot Dave
There aren't as many as last year around here either.
They never stop moving, so they're hard to get.

He is trying to hide behind the branches!

Haven't seen a Redpoll before, I looked it up in the field guide, they do come down this way in winter (oh, btw...I'm in Mass not Maine). Will need to keep my eyes open.

Being here is much diffrent then Florida, nice to not have to travel to an avariry or zoo. There is a pair of Carolina Wren's I'm trying to get a good shot of...so far they are faster then me!

Very nicely composed and taken Dave, I don't know this particular bird but I know these smaller birds in general are very fast and unpredictable, so you really captured a nice peaceful pose and in spite of the light you got some very good details...well done!!:)

Excellent shot, very good focus even in difficult lighting conditions (bright sunlighted areas against lot of shadows in long distance) but you focus well on the lovely bird's face, very sweet shot Dave!
be well my friend!

Wow,what a beautiful bird. I love the little touch of red on his head. He's tack sharp except his belly is a little blown out. Darn that sun.LOL Thanks for sharing.
