Like I said in my info for the picture of Ruby, I liked the blurry effect even though I didn't mean for it to come out that way. You comment was decent, but the last line was uncalled for. You make it sound like I don't give a crap about my dogs.

John, I rate your critique as a "10". It explained some aspects of my own picture that I wasn't aware of, such as the value of the inconsistency between the gradient and the illumination of the blossom. I truly appreciate the effort you put into the analysis. It's the best critique I've ever received.

Why is this image so popular? Why is a daisy so popular? Here's my theory. Both are simply beautiful. Simplicity is an increasingly treasured value in our complex world. This flower, so free of flaws and the ravages of life also represents purity and perfection. An untainted innocence. No matter how hard you try, I don't think you could improve on the composition. It is correct. It is righteous. The flower itself is sunny and bright representing the sun and its rays. All daisies do this, but this one does it better than most thanks to the lighting and background you have employed. The background tones cover the spectrum of visible daylight and are an equally important element to the flower itself. It is as if you have captured nature's spiritual life essence in the background. So much more powerful and life affirming than the void of black velvet. Finally, there is a sence of mystery here. The alchemy of light which juxtaposes the lower light illuminating the surface of the flower with the higher position light of the super natural daylight background adds an element of magic which is hard to detect but easy to enjoy. Maybe I sound like a madman, but I see all of this in this modest effort and like the others who have commented before me, I can only sum it up by simply saying WOW!

I think the pull of this image is it's simplicity. The background is a wonderful, non-busy colleage of colours that compliment the daisy, and the lighting makes each and every detail stand out, while not looking fake or over-lit. You have my vote for a beautiful image!

Thanks for your generous comment, Marilia, and to all who took the time to critique this modest effort. It's certainly not technically perfect, but it's easily my highest rated submission on this and the PhotoSig site. I'd like to figure out why, so I can improve the eye appeal of future submissions.

You had a super lighting on this nice daisy and the background creates a very good effect in the picture. The daisy really pup out of it. My CO 990 works well, as you already said to me, and I see you do a very good job with your 995... Just me...:)

what a beautiful shot of a simple daisy! If it is digitally produced - great effect on the background. If it is film produced - awesome use of light on the background to reproduce the sun on the right side of the photograph! Simple yet beautiful - i love it!
