Thanks Marika! Yes, it really is amazing to see the cracks in the ice up here. There is just an endless series of possibilities for photography sometimes. Cheers, Gary

A great shot! Hard to believe that you can find such patterns in a frozen lake, and in addition you've managed to compose the photo beautifully.

This is a cool abstract photo. I would never have guessed that this is cracked ice. Good thing that you told us. Wonderful depth and patterns you have going on here. Great color of blue. Kelly

Hi Gary, Looks like I'm not the only one who appreciates this image. Nature supplies us with some wonderful picture material, if we would only stop and take a closer look around us - as you obviously did to grab this unique picture of ice on a frozen lake. If you cropped the left side off as someone else suggested it could become a pure abstract image, but personally I like the surface snow which sets the image in context. Great job.

Hi Ann... actually, the ice was about 7' thick and difficult to see all the way down to the bottom with any clarity... There could well have been a bit of weeds/rocks down there, but not much in the line of sticks!! Thanks for the comment (o: Gary

WOW Gary..what an unusual sight. I've seen cracked ice before but never with such unique patterns and depth as this appears to have. Lovely blue tones. It looks like there's a bunch of frozen twigs and seaweed type of vegetation under the frozen ice. Most unusual sight indeed. Great abstract.
Cheers - Ann :)

Amazing abstract, Gary! I thought you took an underwater shot of some marine life, never would have guessed ice cracks are so beautiful and complex. Fantastic image, full of possibilities, great composition with the snow to the side! Best regards, Ina

Hi Wez. Thanks for the comment. I left just a bit of snow on the edge to "ground" the photo, but you are right, it could be better to crop it all off (or just take lots more photos!! hahaha). Cheers, Gary

Hi Jim... thanks for the comment! I agree it is a little on the grey side. All I have done is scan in the slide and no PS adjustments (gonna have to work on that someday!!) You are right that this subject has endless possibilites!! So many cracks etc... limited only by the imagination. Cheers, Gary

I really like this photo. There are so many possibilities here for an abstract photo. I was curious how this would look with some minor color correction. Attached is a copy with levels and curves adjustments made in Photoshop. The center band is the color corrected portion. Your image is a little grey. With these corrections you see more of the icy blue and aqua and is less grey. I also added a touch more contrast to see what it would look like. Wonderful subject with so many possibilities.

wonderful patterns and a great abstract. I wonder though if a crop of the left side might have been worthwhile to even things up. Whatever, it still works well your way.
