Chain collision - I was the third of five cars, and all the others were SUVs/Minivans, which meant my little car was smushed up.
There is a shot of the new car on uf as well!

Hey Richard:
The best Canadian Rockies photographer on uf that I know if is Tim Schumm. He's away at the moment on a photo trip, but if you leave a note on one of his photos he should be able to identify this if it's in his area of Canada.
That is a really sharp shot - clearly a lot of thought and preparation goes into your photographs. The effort shows. For reflections I noticed that a down-the-center horizontal works well and I think the still water worked for you.
Do you use grad filters for your shots to balance the sky? Sometimes It's fairly obvious, but in this one I don't see any tonality changes (a welcome sight). High quality shot all around.
Nice use of lining up the mountains on a 2/3 composition with trees for diverstity on the left 1/3rd. The rocks in the water give a good interesting foreground, but clearly the distance and sky are the main focal points.
No real suggestions to improve.

I desaturated quite a bit to emphasize the complicated ugliness on a simple and elegant wall.
Ha - point well made, glad you got it.
Just remember here in the US our "old" stuff is your "farily new" stuff. (excluding the Scandinavian modernism and facination with all clean new surfaces)

A very fine comment coming from a photographer with such a fine portfolio, had to flip through all five pages to see all of the strong modelling work and portraits.

And while I have your attention, here is a shot that did not make the cut. I was trying to be interesting with the overall form, but somehow this just came out a dud. Maybe you have an idea on how to make this work.

Erie is how'd I place this. Great compliments on the dunes, sky, mountains. Almost looks like a paste job on the sky but the shadows on ground are left-right and sky is the same. Is this a HDR where the saturation is cranked up?

Yeah, I did think of it, but then how would you know the scale of the wall and how high the branch was off the ground? I left just a sliver so the viewer would know the context.

This is a damn fine shot with exacting color balance, tones, and sharpness. Nice and crisp.
Very textbook in the design, early morning/sunset with a wide angle lens. Nice foreground detail with something of interest and a nice wide recession back into a nice midground elements and cloudscape. Looks like a lot of planning and work to pull this one off. Probably needed a grad filter as well.

Fascinating colors - reds and yellows where I would not expect them.
Something you may want to try is to concentrate more on the trees as forms or the water and it's reflections. Perhaps a little application of the rule of thirds to give way to more river or horizon.

Hey there Gene -
I noticed a lot of these action shots, which are pretty hard to get. my only suggestion here is to put the empty space in front of the bird, so that it is flying into the frame - gives is a better sense of motion.
I like the slight blur - glad that you did not center this composition.

Hey Carmen:
You have a high quality B+W portfolio, so the fact that you really like this photograph is a real honor. I enjoyed looking through your macro shots as well as your wide views of clouds and ground. It's somewhat close to what I try to achieve but often fall short of.
