hey alastair, thanks so much for the feedback on this image, i quite enjoy the critique, it helps me make better images. which is something this forum is lacking sometimes.. people always say such nice things yet i need and other artists need to hear what can be improved you know...

on the image, i agree i looked at it for quite a while and it needed something, i added some of the clouds in the upper left, mainly the big formation is post, and did it as a lighten layer and lowered the opacity and changed colors so that it matched up with this composition, the clouds were on another image i had taken at the same location... a polorizer was used on this gigantic lens it is so hard to find the 90 degree angle from the sun and still keep a good composition, it was about 25 degrees to the right, then the sky would have been black ha ha ha, thanks again for your comments and critique, anytime i love hearing thoughts on my work,

and thats what were all here for right, plus im used to critique, going to art school for 5 years toughens up even the toughest of us!!!!!

keep them coming alastair

Excellent again Phil. The colours are good and the brightness and hard light emphasise the altitude and provide a feeling of heat. Slightly overexposed for the water but in this light it is difficult to get the balance perfect. Compositionally this is simply brilliant. The foreground rocks provide interest and the fallen tree provide a lovely frame for the waterfall. Well done!

Superb Phillip. The composition is bang on. So is the colour and the DOF. No fault here at all!!!

This is a very good shot Phil. If I were to be very very picky I would prefer to see it a little more underexposed to reduce the harshness on the rock near the tree, and perhaps a little less sharpening as it appears the rocks on the right may have picked up a few small artefacts. You could also try using a polariser to darken the sky and /or perhaps a Grey grad filter to add depth to the sky? But that is being super picky! Compositionally this is near spot on. Perhaps a little less sky? Don't know. The single tree on the left is well balanced by the rock on the right so no complaints there!

I hope you don't think I'm being critical as I really do like this image and am really trying hard to find fault! Don't think I don't like this as I really do. It is superb as it stands... but you did ask!

Nice composition, Phillip. Good details and sharp focus.

One suggestion: correcting the colour balance. There is a definite cast on the white background.

Hi Phillip, I'm glad I read your comments or I might have missed the rocks underwater. That is one detail I really love in all wide-angle waterscapes, subtle foreground detail combined with beautiful scenery - two images for the price of one! Looking at the clouds the light really wasn't in your favour here, but you have managed to achieve a beautiful photograph. Either the original photograph was very good, or your 'corrections' worked miracles. I prefer to think you did a great job with the camera in the first place!

Congrats on a great image,
Regards
Steve.

Throughout your portfolio there are subtle reminders that you are an artist above all else... this shot has many graphic qualities to it that appeal to the eye. I bet you see the world through a designer eye!
Excellent DOF keeps everything in focus from front to back and makes this a playground for my eyes.
Thanks for the comments on my images... much appreciated!
