Hi Hugo!,
thanks for your comments. your NY series with the fish-eye inspired me as I actually saw your work before I went. This is one of my favs from NY, but when I look back at your fish-eye, it has a much stronger effect and I agree that it conveys the feel of NY better. NY was on one of our fav places on our long holiday, a close second to Pijnacker! ;)
thanks again for you comments, greatly appreciated.
all the best!

Hi Jason,
The sky is a great addition to this shot, and quite beneficial to the exposure, because If I remember correctly, you're shooting against the sun most of the day. Love the view of Manhattan Island, and I like the wide angle look, presenting us with a wider view of the area too. Very recognisable. The B&W tones are excellent. Great shot.
I'm a bit biassed towards the composition, as I've shot this photo as well, with a 10.5 mm lens. I rather like the fish eye distortion. That, on one hand makes this photo a very good alternative, yet on the onter hand, I think the fish eye also adds to the feel of the city.
That may also be because of what Carsten refers to as "dead horizon", and I agree with him, but can also see your decision. Maybe a portrait format, capturing both the cityscape as well as the cloudscape, removing the horizon from the centerline could've solved that. Besides, that would be interesting to see, too!
Cheers,
Hugo

Kind of "dead horizon", compositionwise. But I can understand your decision, I would be hesitant myself with this wonderful cloudscape. The horizon is not a major issue, it does no harm because there is a vanishing point, from ground perspective and also from the clouds. Tack sharp, perfect tones.

I have the same shot & view of lower Manhattan taken @ the same spot when the twin towers were still in the distance, how it's absence has changed the perspective. Great capture & the conversion to b&w was a good choice, nice clouds, well done Jason. regards.
