Greetings Doug,
There has been some controversy every year concerning an entrance fee to the Portland Headlight. With over 1 million visitors to this park annually, some of the Cape Elizabeth?s town councilor?s eye balls start to turn into dollar signs when they do the math and see just how much money they could be making. However; because of the out cry from citizens across the country, their actions have been overruled by the citizens, keeping this type of fee from being implemented. Hopefully it shall be defeated every time it comes up. Best Wishes to you Sandra

Sandra,
Please accpet my apology. I neglected to even praise you on your great shot. Obviously, your image prompted quite a few emotions. As a young, single father, I created many loving memories racing my little son, from rock to rock, out that causeway to the Light, then turning over rocks on the beach or climbing at Fort Prebble.
Maine has always been home; sitting on the rocks out under Spring Point Light, Two-Lights, and the Head Light at Cape Elizabeth have always been most peaceful, relaxing and contemplative refuges. Had to move from Scarborough six years ago and haven't been back, but friends and relatives had remarked there was now an admission charge. I'm glad if they're wrong.
Your wonderful photograph captures a scene that is so familiar and comforting. Casco Bay and several hundred years of history. Thanks for capturing on film, a familiar and warm scene, and reminding me of the "good old days." Your award is well deserved. (Those Zeiss lenses are great, aren't they?)
Sincerely, Doug A fellow Maine-iac :-]

Greeting Doug, You must have been scammed, there is no charge to walk the jetty and never has been in the 40 +++ years that I have lived here. They open the inside of the lighthouse once a year to the public. The Lighthouse just under went a major renovation in 2004. and access including parking is free! Better luck in Maine in the future Sandra

I remember sitting many evenings under that lighthouse on those rocks. Now they charge money just to walk out to it. Welcome to Maine. Taxationland.
