About These two little guys were playing tag in my backyard this afternoon - and would stop every now and then to have a sip of nectar. They surely did move fast and it took about 40 shots to get even a few to come out with the Swallowtails even half way presentable.

Thanks for your comment Mary - on this and my recent sunset shot. I was lucky to have gotton this shot and it was pure luck that this one had some plain area behind them so that they showed up a little better. They sure were zipping around from flower to flower - front of the lantana bush then the back, then up in the air, then over by the orange tree, then over to the neighbor's and then back again. Whew! I really do like standing in one spot and taking my time to frame and shoot. I'm getting tired all over again just thinking about the moving around that I did to get these! LOL. Jan

These three of your butterfly visitors are pretty. I like this one the best. I think it is the diagonal composition and contrast of one corner to the other that makes it appealing. Also, how the dark background draws one's eye to the lovely butterefly. It's like a reverse silhouette. Very 'cheerful' picture.

Beautiful capture - the amazing thing is that both swallowtails are so clearly in focus! Great stuff!

Best wishes, Len

LOL Don - I was glad that Sam was up in Flagstaff hunting - he would have been rolling around on the patio with laughter if he could have seen me - and it would have been just like him to have zipped in to the house and gotten the video out and running - just for laughs of course! Jan

They sure are huge butterflies. Might be a good video of you shooting butterflies...One for funniest videos. Don.

Beautiful capture! We had some playing tag a month ago and I tried to get a photo, but they were way too fast. I'm sure this did take some time and effort to get!

Thanks Brian - will try again tomorrow using my tripod and 70-300mm lens and see what I can get. If I get something good - will upload the results of my efforts. Jan

I like this one too, Susie, for the same reason. Thanks for the comment. It is nice when the butterflies arrive. The Painted Ladies are here too, but their coloring and markings blend so closely with the lantana that they are difficult to shoot - much less see.

Beautiful flutterbys. I like this one best of the 3, I think because the b/g is darker, so it's easier to see the insects. How fun to have all these beauties in your yard! :)

Me patient - Not hardly. I just ran and grabbed my camera, set it on the auto program called action, and clicked away like I knew what I was doing. I was lucky to have gotten even a semblance of an okay shot to turn out. Darn those things move fast! Thanks for the comment Kathy - appreciate you taking the time to look. Jan
