About I posted thi on Ephotozine and on comment read:-

"One the most original shots of the bay I've seen."

and that came from a pro who works this area daily!

so thought it worth sharing.

It's the boozer tht Marky Evans is currently dreaming about, the one reflected in my last post and the one with a few decent ales in.

Up close with the old 15mm lens, a little skewing to get the verticals a little more vertical - but not too much, loose the effet then.

the sky is genuine, no dodge or burn, but I lowered the white temperature in a raw editor to the lowest to get the shot very blue, then when editing added a channel mixer in mono mode and reduced the blue imput to about -20. And it worked for once!!

a little dodgeing on the whitewash of the building and the forground detail t lift them a bit

I do tend towards colour, and quite saturated colours too, but do love mono too. I think you get more feedback on colour shots, so part of it's a bit of "fishing" for attention on these sites, but if you saw my walls at home, they are more mono than colour.

That pub was begging for mono - and those clouds were real, just needed a bit of curves to get the texture to shine out.

Even though color seems to be your specialty, this is an excellent B&W image. Tones, contrast, editing, etc...

Hey.... great idea!!! Not thought of that little tip!

Free this weekend if you fancy a trip up? You could even stay Saturday night if you like and don't mind kipping on a camp mattress on the floor?

sure am - I wasted Saturday completely with a hangover so made up for it on sunday. Whitby to Goole.... long day.

When you got a free weekend? Apart from mad nights out, I've nowt planned at weekends for ages now. Which is nice - a bit of freedom.

Ditch ever using JPG - I did it in Cyprus and regret it now. All those shots that are not quite right just can't be rescued like you can in RAW. Another RAW trick is to convert the same file twice - tweak the exposure for the sky in one and the foreground in the other, then put them both on the same shot and use a mask to blend from one to another.

Works a treat believe me!

Nice shot Ade... the conversion to B&W is very effective indeed! You certainly are etting about these days - Cyprus, Robin Hoods Bay... when are you going to make it to Lancashire then?

:-D
