Super shot Dave and to get such a catch in the wild is incredible. I know what you mean about the sky. Usually I set my EV to +2.0 and then let the sky burn out. Then by doing a selection on the bird, inverting the selection I can add some sky colour which I do by having a pale blue foreground colour and a light grey background colour. Using these I add a gradient diagonally across the image. Give it a try, the results are cool.

great shot of this hawk. So far I have not been able to take a picture of a hawk although I have tried very hard. I admire this shot very much. From one who knows how difficult it is to take pictures of birds...

Hi Marilyn, thanks for the comment! I believe this is a Swainson's Hawk, similar to the red shouldered, but the head colouring is a little different. According to my bird book, we're closer to the Swainson's range, as well. All the different types are confusing, though!

Wildlife doesn't always agree with our intentions.
We have recently bought a sigma 50-500, so I am hoping I get more opportunity to acquire those far of captures. Thank You for your very nice comments of the Monarch macro I recently posted.

Well I thought about it a Lot...Dave!....and Decided...that Since I Have an 8 Mega Pixel...Olypmpus...I Decided..to Buy the Digital Rebel...Black...price was Right...and 6.3 Mega Pixels...is now Adequate...for my use...I Chose this Rebel...because of Price....$869 Can..C/w Lens....and I Bought the Battery Grip....which adds excellent Balance....I did not Like the Smalness of the XT....and it would have Cost more...! Which if I was going that way I would Have Bought...the 20D....But I decided...it Was'nt Worth...Spending $2000....Plus...!
My Package..Cost me..something Like $1130+Gst.Including a 250 meg Image Card...!
I have Given my Son....my s5000...for His Birthday...!
This Digital Rebel....in My opinion...is so Accurate....!
