Typical neo-classical/stalinist architecture created under the rule of Stalin. Many people commented to me that they don't like this style, but I think the immensity of these buildings is astounding. The original goal (in my opinion as someone who specialized in the USSR) was partly to diminish the human being (weaken them) in the face of such massive structures, some of which were state/government buildings.

Your photo exemplifies this, the building stands on its own and dwarfs anything else in its path.
