James, I agree with you about the horizon but the long shadows and closed umbrella helped me convey the idea that the beach was deserted and the day was ending. Those two things are what added interest to the image to me instead of it just being another shot of a pretty beach. Thanks for the feedback though. Leah

leah, try to straighten the horizon a bit. can be difficult to get right because in straightening that, you might put something else crooked, but a crooked horizon should really be corrected. i would also try to visit at another time of day to eliminate the shadows on the left side of the photo, as the shining sand is clearly nicer to look at. finally :>) i think an open umbrella would be more appealing. my opinion anyway.
