HASANKEYF Hasankeyf is located in South East Anatolia. The village is set on the banks of the Tigris river (Dicle in Turkish). The first civilization to built the city is not known. During the Christian Era, Hasankeyf was ruled first by the Sasanis and then the Byzantines. Hasankeyf had a large fortress overlooking the river. The fortress is built in the 4th century BC by the Byzantines. The city has been conquered by the Emevis in 639 AC. Throughout history, many tribes settled in Hasankeyf. The Abbasids, Hamdanis, Mervians, Artuks, Eyyubis and Ottomans ruled the region. They built thousands of houses, churches, mosques, palaces. And today, this historical city is in danger. Although it?s declared protected historical site in 1981,. Hasankeyf will be flooded by the waters of the proposed ilisu dam. The dam will be operational by the next decade but archeologists need more than that to secure all the historical and archaeological works. Respect your civilizations, Save Hasankeyf IMPORTANT: PHOTO WAS TAKEN BY MR. ENDER OZCAN and I ADD TO WEB SITE AFTER HIS PERMISSION TO MAKE AWARNESS TO HASANKEYF. and I HOPE USEFILM ADMINISTRATORS SUPPORT THIS CULTURAL IDEA.
Agree.. Hasankeyf should be saved, but not only from the rising waters, also from the hordes of tourist buses that crowd the place turning it into a dump of garbage on weekends. I was there about months ago and it was sad to see a site of such beauty turned into the worlds biggest open air mangal!
a great shot!!! hope it will bring some results as no historical site should go to waste for any reason!!!!! very noble of you dear Oral!!!! my best regards Marian
