About This spider has only six legs!

Actually, he has six and a half, if you look closely, you'll see a withered limb. His disability does not stop him building a vast web. So I identify with him! (shades of Robert the Bruce).

Took this in the backyard, (a break from the european photos!). In poor light and hand held, so proud of this one.

Very interesting, Colin. Thanks. Next time, when the occasion comes and you have a question about our history, just ask and I'll supply the answer (if I know it.)

Thanks a lot for the comment, Rafi, it was welcome as always!

You asked about Robert the Bruce, mentioned in my 'about'. He was a scottish nobleman, fighting against the English king, Edward II, in the beginning of the 1300's.

After losing heavily in a battle, he sought shelter in a cave. There he watched a spider building a web in difficult circumstances. But it kept trying over again, until it spun its web. (Just like my "Old Six Legs"!) From this, the 'Bruce', found inspiration, and subsequently defeated Edward II, at Bannockburn.

Here ends, Professor Colin's, history lesson! Hope that interests you, Rafi.

With all the difficulties, you produced an equisite photo of this poor spider. Even with just 6 and a half legs, it still looked (while it lasted) quite menacing (for a fly.) Just as a black cat brings bad luck, especially when you are a mouse. By the way can you tell me about Robert the Bruce?
Thank you colin, for your very kind comment on my (also hand held) "Memories from Paris 32."
Best regards,
Rafi

Thanks for that excellent comment, Gustav. I was very pleased with this at f2.8 and 1/25s. The light was poor, but I didn't want to blast him with the flash!

The following day day, him, his six legs, and the web, were all gone. I identified with old six legs.

Regards

Colin

Hello Colin,
a very interesting wildlife picture and write up.
Fine lighting and very good details of the spider. Well focused and amazingly sharp at f:2.8
A joy to look at.
Keep up the good work.

Very few of my comments are making it on screen, not sure why.
