It's been a veritable skimmer-fest on UF recently! Roberto, Darlene and you have come up with a cracking shot each.

This one's very nice, though I'd think it would be a "decisive moment" if it was actually skimming at the time. (Demanding, aren't I?)

Still, you got the BIP so it's got to be right!

Congratulations for the BIP, Marcus. Well deserved.
Thank you for your very kind comment on my "Luna di Luna." The wines in the photo are imported, but Israeli wines have recently improved so much that they won first prizes or gold medals or whatever you win in intternational wine contests.
Best regards,
Rafi

Congratulations on BIP! Definately well deserved. This is a bird I am not familiar with. He has such an interesting bill structure. Looks like he is fairly large. Again, you have fabulous detail and colour. The composition is great with the bird against the beautiful blue sky. Superb.

Thanks Fabrizio, I think we all have to shoot what our time and work allows us to which is what is close to our homes, we can really open up and show our best when we get time off and shoot what we really love....
Your shots are great....

Thanks George, This is a 400mm F/4 DO the new defractive optics lens, yes it is a L but the new technology allows it to be 35 percent lighting and smaller then a non-DO lens of the same specs....

Wow Marilyn, my rare bird is starting to look not so rare LOL, believe it or not, this guy spends most of his day doing exactly what yours is, and he also is hanging out with the turns as yours is as i can see one in the background...

Thanks Andre, this was not off a kayak, I will stick to more of a wide angle for that, the super tele is way too hard LOL, It is true wildlife will let you get closer from a boat, I guess like you said they see you as less of a threat or part of the landscape...

Congratulations on your award for this one Marcus!
Well deserved! another great shot. Was this one from the land or the kayak? Now I believe you about how difficult it is to shoot from a kayak. We bought a couple of 13' Tomahawks on the weekend, so I had to try some shots. Not too successful to say the least. But I'll eventually get some good ones to post. The herons and loons let me get a lot closer to them in the kayak. It's almost like they accept you as part of the landscape.
Andre

Marcus, searched and searched and finally found a really rare photo of a skimmer. This is a "florida" skimmer. They were all over the beach one morning. Just a little too laid back. HA HA HA! Just had to show you. Marilyn

Marcus, excellent picture, If you observe well your first pic you will see that the superior beak is shorter than the inferior, that is so that the bird can put the inferior beak into the water and the superior is be not in the way: D

Great capture of a truly unusual (to my eye, at least) specimen. BTW--Is this a new lens? An "L" series, I think, and pretty darned heavy. How does it handle? Obviously you have it under great control to get this kind of result.

Regards,
--George
