About This was my second trip to DC in a month after five years of living in the good old USA. It reminded me a lot of London. Loved all the museums and war memorials and classy architecture. So which war is this particular statistic from?

yeah I am late but I didn?t go to the responses until the image had downloaded.. and thought Korea.. on Wednesday this week a memorial was unveiled in Canberra our national capital to the members of Bomber Command which was the WWII bomber but wait yeah you are a brit.. yeah well anyway dad was in 76 Squadron RAF (seconded from the RAAF) Holme on Spalding Moor (Yorkshire) did about thirty ops from there in Halifax's as a navigator before transferring to Transport Command in 45 after the cessation of hostilities in Europe? to be demobbed on the way home after the weapon was dropped on H & N.. so anyway it was unveiled and I shed a tear for the old man he died in 2000 at 80 and am not sure but I think he never quite got over his homecoming.. he kept diaries wonderful articulate things he got off the boat walked with his kit to Circular Quay station caught the train to Strathfield and walked to his parents home and then resumed work two weeks later in his old job? you know it makes me so angry now?night after night (he seldom talked about it and in those days I was a passionate pacifist.. I remember one night dad and I would fight every one of the 100 Pipers in the bottle when he did his block with me and said the Germans were wrong and we were right and that is it) they flew out in low tech aircraft knowing full well the statististics of survival ? but they did it anyway.. so my younger brother who now works for the Dept of Vets affairs in Canberra e-mailed the transcript of the 30 year old female minister for vets affairs or somesuch speech.. I wrote back and said not enough and too late? memorials have a rich power and significance to me now? don?t it always seem to go

Yes indeed
I know very little about this war - lets say my thoughts if you mention Korea go to "Mash" and I was surprised to find the large number of UN MIA.
Shows the power of the media or maybe my ignorance of history. Or both.
