About This panorama required a lot of "doctoring" and I'm afraid it shows. The camera is a rare "swing-lens" type, and I pointed it up, out of the horizontal. The result was a wild "bowing" of the horizon. This is not easy to correct, and the process softened the image so much that even much stronger sharpening than I usually use was hardly enough. I'll take it down if enough people say "Ugh!"

The special atmosphere of the market is very nicely captured here IMO a great one my friend
Many thanks for nice comment on "Olive tree IR"
IR non digital is a bit tricky, but I am sure you will get excellent results
My best regards

Lily, with any removal of distortion I always start with rotating the image so that a line that should be parallel with the horizontal edges of the frame IS parallel and/or that a true vertical runs vertically through the center of the image. Then I correct any leaning verticals on the assumption that they will be symmetrical about the vertical center line. Then I use either a specific "defish" conversion (like PanoTools full-frame fisheye to rectilinear "adjust" function) or the excellent PowerRetouch lens correction plug in or even the similar PaintShop Pro utility, although the latter tends to degrade the image too much for comfort, especially around the edges. You might be lucky and find that a barrel-distortion correction will do what's necessary.

Much, MUCH better to hold the camera level in the first place!

And if any of the assumptions (above) are wrong, then I try to put THAT right first. It's a rather time-consuming business. Two years ago when I took the Camden Town photo I wrote off the correction as beyond me. Since then I've acquired a bit more experience. Probably more than you wanted to know, right?

Hi Roger, I knew someone who worked and lived in Camden. Slight problems with some of the faces but other than that it looks good to me. How do you go about fixing a bowing horizon?

I like it.. especially the scene..excellent street image... the technical flaws that you state are not distracting to the image... good work

no, no Roger-- this is great. perhaps you're finicky about technical details (cosine-law and whatnot) but the look of these shots is very appealing--you've a fine eye for these.

Thanks for looking--and commenting--Chris. I think it shows that I've learned to do things a little better over the past two years. Mind you, I wouldn't have known (didn't in fact know) how to correct that bowed horizon, so there's been progress in correcting mistakes as well as learning to avoid them. Think I'll take this down in a day or so... (Another problem was that this was hand held, and I've certainly learned that this old lady (the camera, I mean!) gets the shakes if hand held. Tripod definitely called for, or unipod at the very least.

I wouldn't go so far as to say 'Ugh!', Roger, but I can see what you're saying!!
Not one of your very best, but still lots of interest.
Best regards, Chris
