Wow, Marky. From the thumbnail I couldn't see the human behind and had no idea the statue is so massive. Nicely presented silhouette. -- Naomi

WOW.. it really does put it in context doesn't it.
I've only ever viewed this marvel from the road... one day may get there to snap a few shots myself... hope they come out as well as yours... this is another beauty.... excellent angle of her.
I think the main fuss when this statue went up was the amount of money that was getting spent instead of going into something more worth while like the health service... though must admit its an awesome sight... to think in a few hundred years when civilisation has died a death some wandering Nomads may come upon this and speculate upon its meaning... lol... maybe a modern day stonehenge here ;O)
Excellent as usual Marky.

Great perspective too Marky! You can really get the feel of the 'wingspan' - apparently about the same size as a 747! Created by Anthony Gormley and finished in 1988 it was built on the site of an old colliery. It is felt that the site and the angel have a certain resonance. In the artists words ' it is fitting that where men once worked in the dark, there is an angel embracing the light' or something like that!
Well done!!! (But where are the skies???) ;-)
