South African Bowler taken at Kent v Surrey last week in Tunbridge Wells. Learned a lot last Thursday. Only taken cricket shots once before and I had a great time with this. I was using my 80-200 and a 2x teleconverter so I was losing 2 stops. I went with ISO400 rather than a narrower F-stop. Meant quality became an issue once I started cropping some pics later. Going back I'd sacrifice a couple of F-stops instead, but like I say I'm learning every time I go out.
Excellent shot Bruce. I don't think there's any reason to fear using higher ISO's with digital these days. D70 is a superb bit of kit & even at iso 800 you can get more than acceptable results if you use NeatImage or Noiseware in postwork. Looks like you have a good lens at 2.8 so losing 2 stops shouldn't be a handicap. Worth experimenting with all ISO's. I've taken a couple of shots at ISO 3200 with 20D and although the noise is very high the results simply would not have been achievable using comparable film.
Look forward to some shots of England ..er... winning... the Ashes!!
